Storehouse of Words
Woodhorn Trust
An exhibition built entirely from cardboard boxes celebrating the Northern Poetry Library, the largest collection of post-World War II poetry in England.
Excluding scientific and technical words there are approximately 500,000 words in the English language. There are over 200 boxes in this storehouse symbolising all these words in alphabetical order, with each box representing space for approximately 1,250 words. 'Poetry is constructed by the conjoining of words, one next to another. The choice of words and verbal styles available to the English poet is dazzling'.
Stephen Fry
This was the backdrop theme to an exhibition celebrating contemporary poetry and describing the history of the Northern Poetry Library and its role in ensuring that poetry stays at the heart of northern civic life long into the future.
